Social Studies

I have been in Colorado since 2001, after spending the first 23 years of my life in Ohio. I graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Social Studies education, with an emphasis in Political Science. My original plan was to stop in Colorado for a year or two before moving on to the Pacific Northwest, but I fell in love with the weather here and have never been happier. My original plan was to find a job teaching high school government, but I have decided that middle school is where I belong. All ten years that I’ve taught have been at the middle school level, and I really enjoy working with the age group here. I think that middle school teachers are in a unique situation to help students grow academically, as well as help them form the personality that they will carry with them into adulthood. My family is my passion outside of school. My wife Kristi and I have been married since 2006, and we have a daughter, son, cat, and dog. My daughter just recently started Kindergarten, so it’s interesting seeing students through the lens of a parent now, to accompany the lens of a teacher. I am a sports junkie, and say with pride that I am a lifelong fan of the Reds, Bengals, and Buckeyes. Once an Ohioan, always an Ohioan! |

I was born and raised in the western suburbs of Chicago and am a big Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks fan. I came to Colorado on a full athletic scholarship to play volleyball for the University of Colorado at Boulder. Following graduation, I traveled to Europe to play volleyball professionally for Volleyball Gemeinschaft in Salzburg, Austria. I was the only American on the team coached by a German who spoke no English. What an amazing experience that was! After a season in Europe, I missed the states and returned to Colorado. I completed my teaching license at CU Boulder in social studies as well as got my masters from CU Boulder in EECD (English Equity and Cultural Diversity) My first teaching job was at Adams City High School were I taught 9th and 10th graders as well as was an AVID teacher. After four years there, I came to Otho Stuart Middle School where I currently teach 6th and 7th graders. I also coach 8th grade boys’ basketball and am the head girls’ volleyball coach at Brighton High School. I live in Denver with my husband Phil and we have a 3 year old boxer named Maverick. We both play sand volleyball competitively and also belong to Crossfit Verve in Denver. I welcome you all to my classroom. I view education as a lifelong experience as we never stop learning. I want to help each and every one of you reach your potential in my class. I look forward to the year ahead! |

I was born in Iowa, but grew up in colorado Springs most of my life. I graduated from CSU with a business degree in management. After finding out the "business world" wasn't for me, I went back to school to become a Social Studies teacher. This will be my 12th year in the teaching profession and 8th year in SD27J. I coach 7th & 8th grade football and boys and girls basketball. I have a 6 yr old son, T.J., and he is my whole world. My hobbies include playing golf, reading and just about anything I can do with T.J. Teaching is my passion and I enjoy being able to see what kids can do and helping them to maximize their full potential. |
